Mission Possible--Lots of Walgreens "Free"-bies

  • She is like merchant's ships, she bringeth her food (and other things!) from afar
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
How have you done on your Mission Possible shopping this week? You remember Mission Possible, don't you? Our mission, should we choose to accept it (and you know we will) is to use the resources we have available (coupons, weekly ad circulars, register rewards, rebates, and extra care bucks) to buy the things our families need and can use at drugstores, grocery stores, dollar stores, or wherever we can find our best deals, all while keeping our out-of-pocket as small as possible.

Deals have been slim lately, but this week is a an excellent week at Walgreens--they have lots of good feebies if you're quick enough to find them! This is a good time to roll your Register Rewards if you have any, or to get some if you don't!

I started off this mission with my coupon binder, the weekly ad circular, and $7 in Register Rewards from last week. So far I've made two trips, with two transactions per trip. (The two transactions per trip is an effort to use RR from the first transaction to pay for part of the second transaction in order to keep OOP (out-of-pocket) as low as possible.)

Trip #1--$4.05 OOP

Transaction 1:
1 Herbal Essence product, $2.99, less $1 MQ (manufacturer's coupone), $1.99, this generates a $2 RR (Register Reward), making this free after RR
1 Gillette Fusion razor, $8.99, less $4 MQ, or $4.99, recieved $6 RR, making this a $1.01 money maker
I originally had one additional product with this transaction, but it turned out to be an incorrect size for the sale, so I immediately returned it and got my money back.
I used one $6 RR, paid $2.53 OOP, and received $8 ($6+$2) in RR
Transaction 2:
1 Oral-B 1-2-3 toothbrush, $3, received $3 in RR, making this free
1 Dentek floss, $2, receive $2 in RR, making this free
1 Dawn dish detergent, $.99, less $.25 MQ, making this $.74
1 Herbal Essence product, $2.99, less $1 MQ (manufacturer's coupone), $1.99, this generates a $2 RR (Register Reward), making this free after RR
I used the $6 RR from the first transaction, plus $1 RR from last week, paid $1.52 OOP, and received $7 in RR ($2+$2+$3)
Total for trip #1--used $7 in RR from last week, paid $4.05 OOP, and ended up with $9 in RR for the next trip.

Trip #2--2.60 OOP

Transaction 1:
1 Dawn Dish detergent, $.99
3 cans tomato sauce, $.39 each with in-ad coupon
1 Vaseline Sheer Infusion lotion, $6.99, this generates a $7 RR, making this free

I used the $9(2+2+2+3) in RR from the day before, paid $.91 OOP, and received a $7 RR

Transaction 2:
1 Chapstick fresh effects, $2.99, this generates a $3 RR, making it free
1 Oral B 1-2-3 toothbrush (Note: some of the double packs are marked B1G1 and ring up as singles--they work for the RR deal) $3, this generates a $3 RR, making it free
1 Dentek floss, $2, this generates a $2 RR, making it free

I used the $7 RR from the first transaction, paid $1.67 OOP, and recieved $8 in RR (3+3+2)

Total for trip #2 I used $9 in RR from the previous day, spent $2.60 OOP, and received $8 in RR for the next trip.

All of these transactions could be repeated as long as you have coupons and the merchandise holds out. Just remember--using a RR counts as coupon in the Walgreens register, and you can't have more coupons than you have items--hence the fillers with the lotion so I could use up all of the small $ register rewards I had. This week the tomato sauce is good--just remember to use the in-ad coupon, which doesn't count toward your coupon count, to get it at $.39. I'm planning to go back again if I have the opportunity.

Until next time....
