She is like the merchants' ships...

  • She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

Okay, it's not food, it's health & beauty aids, but the principle is the same.

I made my first trip to CVS today. I've been reading all about these great "scenarios" everyone talks about at a lot of the frugal living blogs I go to, and sometimes it just seemed too complicated to figure out. I found a way to wade in slowly, though, instead of jumping in over my head, when I found the CVS $5 challenge over at Keeping the Kingdom First. I felt comfortable starting small, so I took the plunge.

First thing on my list, of course, was to fill out the form and get my CVS extra care card. Then I tackled my first scenario. This is what I bought:

Colgate Plus toothbrush, on sale for $.99, used a $1 off of any Colgate manual toothbrush that I got I think from Colgate.

I had two coupons, so I bought two toothbrushes. $0 out-of-pocket.

Colgate Max Fresh toothpaste, on sale for $2.99, used a $1 off coupon, again from the Colgate site here. $1.99 out-of pocket (OOP), received $2 ECB (extra care buck), good for my next purchase at CVS.

Bic Soleil razor, on sale for $5.99, used a $2 coupon I got from their site here, $3.99 OOP, recieved a $4 ECB.

Last but not least, Dove beauty bar soap for $.99.

Total cash spent, $7.00, recieved $6 in ECB, so net OOP $1.00

Basically, I got 2 toothbrushes, a tube of toothpaste, a nice razor, and bar of soap, a $12 value, all for what I would have paid for the bar of soap.

Yay!!

Here's my bounty
