Food (and other things) from afar..

  • She is like the merchant's ships, she bringeth her food from afar.

Just a quick recap of some other good deals I found this week:

I went "scouting" this week--looking at a couple of different CVS stores for one with a "magic coupon machine" I've been reading about that "my" store doesn't have--I did buy 4 soy joy bars for $4, and I got $4 ECB back, so it was like getting them for free--thankfully so, because after tasting them, I won't be buying any more of these unless they're a money-maker! I also picked up the CVS vitamin D that was $2.99, and got a $2.99 ECB back on that as well--total spent, $7.25, received $6.99 in ECBs, total OOP $.26

This afternoon I made a Rite Aid run, and got two free-after-rebate items--Kotex pantiliners, on sale for $3.00, and an Oral-B Artica toothbrush, on sale for $2.49, both eligible for single check rebates. (I've already entered the receipt information on-line--at the end of the month I'll go back and request a check for the total of all of my rebate items for the month). I am out-of-pocket right now for these, but once I receive the rebate, I'll be out only the tax on these.

FYI--the secret on both the Rite-Aid single check rebate system, and the Walgreens Easy Saver Rebates, is to register on-line, then enter your receipt information into their system as soon as you buy the items--before you lose the receipt! I have a spot I save all of my receipts--for now, just stuck in the back of a spiral-bound journal, but I'm starting to think I need a couple of pocket folders for everything I'm saving.)

And, last but not least, I did my main grocery-buying at Wal-Mart today. None of the other two grocery stores I go to have much for sales this week, and I had some coupons that I really wanted to use before they expired--most were for staple items that will keep just as good on my shelf as they will on the store shelves. I got some really good deals on a few items:

2 cans Hunts tomato sauce, $.66 each, less $1/2 Q ($1 off of 2 coupon), net $.16 ea.

2 boxes Chex mix granola bars, $2.54 ea, less $1.25 and $.60 Q, net of $1.62 ea.

4 Betty Crocker instant potatoes, $.72 ea, less 4 $.40 Qs, net $.32 ea.

2 cans Carnation evaporated milk, $1.12 ea, less $1/2 Q, net of $.62 ea.

2 cans Libby pumpkin, $1.08 ea, less $1/2 Q, net of $.58 ea.

2 boxes Uncle Bens Long Grain & Wild Rice, $1.92 ea, less B1G1 free Q, net of .96 ea.

2 boxes Kraft Bagel-fuls, $1.98 ea, less 2 $2 Qs, net of $.98 ea.

Honey Bunches of Oats Just Bunches, $2.88, less $2 Q, net of $.88

Kelloggs Frosted Mini-Wheats, $2.33, less $1 Q, net of $1.33 ea.

(After all of the good cereal deals lately, it'll pain me to ever pay full price for cereal again!) There were some other decent prices, but these were the ones that especially stand out in my mind.

What good deals have you gotten lately?

Until next time...

My husband is addicted to ceral bars so I have trying to get good deals on them. I bought 5 SoyJoy bars at CVS with a $3 off 5 coupon and got the $4 EBC so made profit of $2. I thought it was a great deal but hubby ate one and said "Please don't buy any more." I noticed you didn't like them either.

He's right, I've only tried one so far, but it was NOT good at all!

Right now Wal-Mart has Fiber One bars for $2 each, and the Chex bars for $2.54 With coupons, that's about the best I've found so far.

WOW! I have to "scout" out some stores and keep track of prices. Your Walmart prices sound great. I am going to look through my coupon stash for some Carnation and Libby's coupons-at those prices I will stock up for the holidays. I started with last week's grocery trip.

Wal-Mart is not always my store of choice, but sometimes their prices can't be beat!
